Appointments

pen_on_diaryOur clinical team have pre-booked appointments and may not be able to see you if you are more than 5 minutes late.  A few patients arriving late cause surgeries to run heavily behind time.  Please show courtesy to other patients, arrive ahead of your appointment and allow for the possible need to queue at reception.

Booking ahead for routine appointments

Patients with routine medical needs are seen in pre-booked routine appointments bookable by coming into reception, telephoning the surgery or registering to book appointments on-line through Vision on-line.

Telephone lines are at their busiest between 8:30am and 11am each day; we recommend telephoning the surgery after 11am to book ahead for a routine appointment. The receptionist will ask you a few questions in order to deal with your enquiry as efficiently as possible.  Please note that Monday is our busiest day for incoming calls.

The practice endeavours to provide a routine appointment within 2 working days.  Please note we are not expected by NHS Gloucestershire to provide an appointment with your usual doctor this quickly and we may be unable to do so.

Our receptionists will ask you who your usual doctor is.  For continuity of care we encourage you to book with your usual doctor.  Some of our doctors work part-time and their appointments are taken up more quickly, resulting in longer waiting times.  You have the option to book to see a different doctor if you wish to seek a second opinion.

Appointments can be booked up to 8 weeks in advance unless a doctor is already fully booked on a current appointment rota.

On-line appointment booking

You can register to use Vision on-line appointment booking.  You will need to complete a form and produce a photographic identity document.  Book ahead appointments with doctors can be booked on line with the exception of appointments with Dr Lane.  Please note same day appointments can only be booked by telephoning or coming in to the surgery.

Early morning and late evening appointments

Patients who work full time, day time hours have the option to advance book early morning doctor appointments at Cinderford on Mondays and Wednesdays and late evening doctor or nurse appointments at Cinderford on Tuesdays. Please note these appointments are only available by advance booking. We are not expected or able to offer a doctor of choice for these appointments. The full range of practice services is available Monday-Friday 8:30am to 6:00pm.

A standard appointment with a doctor is 10 minutes long. If you feel this is insufficient for your needs, please ask the receptionist to book you a 20 minute appointment. Please use our automated check-in point to book in for your appointment when you arrive.  Alternatively, book in at reception if you need to check something with our receptionist first.  The check-in point is very simple to use and just asks for your gender and the date you were born (excluding year). The check-in screen will confirm you have been booked in.

Patients are called by clinical staff on a tannoy system.  Patients concerned they may not hear the tannoy announcement should notify the receptionist on arrival.

Missed Appointments

If you cannot attend, or no longer require an arranged appointment please inform us as soon as possible,  We can then offer your appointment to another patient.  A feature of our telephone system is an option to leave a message during both opening and closing hours to cancel unwanted appointments.

On average 130 appointments are missed with doctors each month, a similar number are also missed with practice nurses.  This results in an average of 50 hours of wasted surgery time monthly and can create a longer than necessary wait for an appointment.

Appointments can be booked up to 8 weeks in advance unless a doctor is already fully booked on a current appointment rota.
